Lost Glasses!

I have lost/mislaid my glasses. I cannot find them anywhere and I bloody well need them for work. (I need them for work/reading/television to be honest)
I cannot fathom where or how I have lost them. At first I thought, 'oh they have to be some where'. So I have looked in all the usual places, and nowt. Then I turned this house upside down and inside out, I have searched stupid places, like under the sink, in the fridge, inside the linen basket and even the garage-they have a tendency to slip down my nose so I have a tendency to leave them odd places. But nothing, they are NOWHERE to be found.
This is most perplexing and annoying. I now have to go to bloody specsavers, have my eyes tested and get another pair, all of which cuts into lollygagging around reading the paper time.
Disaster.
Losing things, I am VERY much against it!

  1. Oh what a pain in the ass to ruin a perfectly good day.
I hope you get in and out with minimal hassle, FMC.
You'll probably find your glasses as soon as you get back with the new pair.

  2. God damn it, spec savers can't do an eye test until tomorrow morning. So I am spec free until then. Not good.

  3. fmc - check the pockets of any jackets you've worn since you last remember having your jacket. when i lose my sunglasses, they have a habit of turning up there....

  4. In between the sofa cushions?

Gah, what a huge pain in the hoop. I'd be lost. Though I do have contact lenses as well for sports and dress-up. Who am I kidding. I don't dress up. They're for the sports I no longer play...

    ReplyDelete
  5. I meant to continue on to say that contact lenses are great to have even if you don't wear them much. ARe they an option?

  6. I don't have lenses Andraste, I've always been squiffy about having things in my eyes.
Arrrrgh. And I mean arrrrrrgh. I HATE not knowing where things are.
I last had them on Friday, I watched CSI with them, I was wearing red jammies and an enormous fluffy dressing gown, but that's the last I remember about them. They're not in the pockets, they're not in the bedroom or bathroom or living room or here in the office, it swear to god, it's like they have completely vanished. And it's driving me up the walls. I can't type much or watch tv or read the papers for longer than five minutes at a time without getting a faint headache behind my eyes. And I'm making a squinting face that Etheline assures me is almost an exact copy of our mother.
Oh cry cry. I'm off to open a bottle of Spanish wine.

  7. Losing your glasses has got to be one of the most annoying things, especially if you are anywhere near as short sighted as I am! Have fun at specsavers tomorrow, at least they should give you a spare pair for free.

That's so annoying. I reckon sometimes these things take on wee lives of their own and just do it to mess with your head. I have lost things, turned my place upsidedown, replaced them, only to find they are in one of the 'safe' places I left them. And when you discover them, its like they're sitting there giving you the bird. (I just lost the work credit card, last thing I was told, 'For god's sake DON'T lose it.' And I KNEW i had put it in a safe place, somewhere. So cancelled it yada yada yada and promptly found it.)

Here's two suggestions, both of which you might slap me for.

1: Check they're not in the fridge. I kid you not.

2: Say a prayer (yes a freakin' prayer) to Saint Anthony to help find your glasses. I am not a prayer type, I bloody well scoff in the face of religion, but my late mammy did believe in the saints and used to tell me to say a prayer to St Anthony if I lost something
I lost my passport a couple of weeks ago -- said a prayer to Anthony and VOILA! I found it right where I hadn't left it.

One more thing -- good luck!

  10. I once spent ages looking for my glasses when I was actually wearing them...when I fail as a human being, I fail in an epic way!
But who needs glasses? If you've got Spanish wine then you can look at the world through Rioja-tinted spectacles, everything looks SO much better!

  11. I was on a plane from South America once and woke after a bit of a nap to find that my glasses were missing. I checked down between the seats, under the seats, I bothered the person on the next seat, checked pockets, everywhere.

About an hour later, the pilot or air steward came onto the intercom thing and said "would the person that left their glasses in the toilets please make themselves known to the cabin crew".

No, idea why I took them off, no idea how I forgot them...nada. I mean, why did I take off my glasses to go for a pee? Why? I ask you.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It is 11:22, and still no glasses. I believe the gremlins have taken them, those hairy bastards. However I have, as RM points out, a good deal of Spanish wine that I don't NEED to see. So I suppose that will just have to do.

  13. I once spent a good ten minutes looking for and panicking about a child who was on my hip the whole time. Or more my shoulder really. She was tiny at the time and I was in a state of high hormonal scattiness. I've carried handbags bigger than her and I was so used to carting her about I'd forgotten she was there. I only found her when I happened to look in the hall mirror.

That's why I said look on your head. If you can lose a child about your person you can surely lose some specs.

Bad luck though - they can be feckin' spensive.

They're on top of the TV / under the bed / in a pair of shoes.
Failing that, get the CSI team in.

I came to this site because, I too have lost my glasses and was so frustrated I thought I'd search the net for ideas to shake my memory. I'm so frustrated!! errrr.

    Did you ever find yours?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anonymous6:03 pm

What you really need, and I speak from experience, is somebody else in the house who can remember things for you and has the vision to find stuff you misplaced. I am sure there are other things this person maybe usefull for you.

  17. DV, I did indeed, in a bag upstairs that I SWEAR I checked in twice.
Saskia I know how three pairs, one set for the car and two for the house. It's just seems easier that way.

For anyone who thinks they've lost their glasses outside the house, try looking on losersweepers.com. My friend found some glasses on a park bench and posted them on this lost and found website. Worth a try!

Yes do that I found a pair of glasses, sorry FMC they were way to ghastly to be yours, I'm figurign your must be trendy......but I listed them on www.LosersWeepers.com. I hope someone not too blind without them to actually see to log on and search the listings. Specsavers and the like do so well out of bins wearer's.

My goodness that's why I'm here as well. I stumbled off to bed at 5am. I could swear I remember laying in bed saying "I should take these off." I dunno what happened next, or what happened before, or what happened during. I called my mom over and we've turned this house inside and out. Imma go try the prayer to St. Anthony idea cuz I'm all out of options and I have the mother of all headaches...

The prayer to Saint Anthony worked like a charm for me. Seriously, within five minutes I had found them. Thanks again, Saint Anthony.
