Katy French.

From today's indo.

"Model Katy French was still in a critical condition in hospital last night after collapsing at a house party.

A health service spokesperson said she was "in a seriously ill condition" after being admitted in the early hours of Sunday.

It is three days since the popular model was rushed to hospital from an estate in Asbourne, Co Meath.

The well known socialite is believed to have suffered multiple heart attacks and has since been on life support at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan.

Last night, family friends said there was a "slim chance" she would pull through.

Vigil

Distraught relatives have maintained a vigil at the bedside of the model, just days after joining her to celebrate her birthday at a glamorous party in Dublin.

A small cluster of journalists and photographers gathered in the car park of Our Lady's hospital in Navan from early morning yesterday.

Katy's father John emerged from the intensive care unit shortly before 8am for a cigarette but declined to comment on her condition.

Along with her mother Janet and sister Jill, he had spent the night at her bedside.

Any visitor to Katy in the ICU yesterday kept a very low profile, possibly to avoid the waiting media, but it was mainly relatives who gathered at her bedside.

It is understood that Katy had brought a number of friends from Dublin to the party in Ashbourne at the home of her friends. They are not believed to be connected to the modelling business.

The party took place just three days after Katy, wearing Gucci, had welcomed dozens of guests to her 24th birthday party in Krystle nightclub in Dublin."

Pure speculation I know, but I doubt this girl is in a coma due to a 'kidney infection' as some of her friends have been spouting. I would be surprised if her collapse and subsequent coma were not drug related. Like I said barely a fortnight ago, there is a very human face and cost to drug taking in this country.
I feel very very sorry for her family right now. I wouldn't wish what they are going through right now on my worst enemy.

Feel very sorry for Katy and her family. Although I thought drugs where ok and Ms Delaney was talking out her ass?? Seems this incident is a good example of both.

What, the Indo has no pictures of the comatose Ms French in Gucci jammies? And no more talk of meningitis, I see.

And one of the Waterford lads in a coma has just died. I'm sure there's no connection and that any speculation that Ms French had been dusting her septum is completely unwarranted.

Ms French and the Indo are symbiotic leeches on this society, they need each other for their bread and circuses act. But the one sad truth is that there are plenty more to take her place in the Indo's pages. And really the Indo doesn't give a shit what happens to them, as long as it provides good copy, ideally with pictures.

Poor girl. Deepest sympathies to her family. It was drug related it seems (I am not a doctor) and its sad as she had a problem. i hope her friends werent involved. This is getting tragic as the 21 year old Kevin Doyle in Waterford died after eating damp cocaine and his friend is still critical. Awful. Maybe Ireland should stop taking cocaine as there is obviously either a bad batch of it going around or consumption is just gone ridiculous. Its the family members that are left behind that suffer the worst.

If she dies expect to see her parents and siblings splashed across the front page as they emerge from the church on the day of the funeral, faces contorted with grief, but no matter, once they get their photograph.

  6. I wouldn't wish that on anyone (although I'd have to struggle with my conscience first in the case of Alan Hughes and Dana).

I appreciate that the celebrity obsessed Heat magazine readers of this land need their daily fix of pr girls - but front page news for the past 2 or 3 days?

There must be something more newsworthy. Its only a kidney infection for crying out loud - its not like all of this was caused by a feast of cocaine and ketamine!

It is the truth. It is a very really consequence of taking drugs one you where happy to ignore last week but as soon as the shit hits the fan you jump on the drugs are bad mkay bandwagon.

The problem is cocaine is considered cool - it's a way of escaping and feeling omnipotent for a brief while - and it is very freely available. Apparently almost every £5 note in circulation here has traces of cocaine on it. Looking at the state of Amy Winehouse and Peter Doherty, it's anything but cool.

Nonny, the discussions you are referring to were about weed, not coke. Its like comparing someone who has 1 pint a week to the scary-looking alcho tramp on the street. You simply cant class the 2 substances in the same league. So I dont think anyone is jumping on any bandwagon.

    Just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Nonny - while others put your asinine comments and attacks down to your age, I think age is not your problem. I think you really are just a self-righteous, fundamentalist, judgmental little zealot.

For the sake of the girl I hope she pulls through. Of course I reserve the right to change my mind if a week after she pulls through she appears doing a 4 page "my drugs nightmare" story pocketing a large wadge in the process.

First thing I thought was coke but coke rarely kills people like that (though it's possible for it to cause thinning and bursting of capillaries in the brain). Secondly I thought vodka snorting.
Either way something's caused a fatal injury to the girl, she's currently being kept alive by a respirator from everything I've seen.

All drugs have their risks. None more-so than alcohol. I don't feel particularly guilty taking coke. I feel I know the risks but I've been around for a few years. I do it very infrequently all the same. It's general prevalence over the last 5 years means there are a lot of young people taking it who are not fully aware of the dangers and only see the high. From their personal perspective, an upside and no downside.
If coke was involved in this girl's case it may act as a deterrent to some peers her age. Unfortunately, like everything else, that's the only way we learn.

I am sorry for that but I have no time for people who promote drugs regardless of whether it be weed or coke, they all contribute to the money making murderous rampage that is drug dealing. Sadly here we have clear example of the detriments they can do and hurt and sorry they can reek on families. I am not a twisted trouble starter I just feel so sorry for her parents (provided it was drugs) who probably don’t even know what coke or hash looks like, I don’t think it is fair that they should have to suffer, it is selfish. Alcohol and drugs are entirely different there is no comparison. If we where to start looking at case examples we would be here all day. Perhaps I am all of those things you all said but if there is no medical reason to take drugs I cannot see justification for it. Ahem that is all I have to say about it. Have a nice day all!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anonymous1:33 pm

nonny, I can only answer for my own comment.
I wasn't trying to address or rationalise the drug dealing gangs in any way (my position would probably be the same as yours on them), simply the position from the stance of the individual coke user.

As for alcohol being completely different, that's just bollocks. It does a lot more damage than all the other drugs put together, it's just that it's a legally sanctioned, controlled, revenue raising cash cow that governments tolerate and society craves.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anonymous1:42 pm

Look Bender they are entirely different I have a pain in my arse having this discussion with people who if they just took the time to read a little would have a better understanding. One of the most fundamental reasons alcohol is less damaging than drugs is off course the most obvious, the content, manufacturing and distribution of alcohol is subject to rigorous regulation. You know what you are getting. With illegal drugs you don’t.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Nonny said, "Alcohol and drugs are entirely different there is no comparison"

Obviously you have never had the experience where an alcoholic can WREAK havoc on every life around them. The only difference is that alcohol is a legal drug, and weed and coke are not. I don't think FMC was promoting the use of drugs, but there is such a thing as moderation, in everything.

Alcohol is a much more insidious drug as it is widely available and widely accepted. Doesn't make it any better, though....

    ReplyDelete
  17. Nonny, who's jumping on any bandwagon?

What Andraste said is spot on, in my opinion. The only thing I'd add is that I've come across people like you before and you are a fucking wind-up merchant.

You appear, despite your tender years, to have direct experience of everything. No matter what the fuck it is it's happened to you or a friend of yours. You are a fantasist and a crashing bore.

ahem- wasnt' that my whole reasoning for legalising and regulating drugs, in my comment on FMC's previous posting. And you argued against that.

So what exactly is your point. Legalising drugs is wrong, all drugs are the same, (your comments on weed show you have little experience with it), and people shouldn't take them. So basically you are advocation the same policy that has been an abject failure for over twenty years - criminalisation.

Sheepy your example, ok lets look at that on a larger scale, lets say a worldwide scale, the overwhelming majority of democratic countries have similar drug legislation to ours. So whilst I might be in a minority on this particular blog I seem to fall in to the majority elsewhere.

John alcohol is the most widely consumed “drug” and since its legalisation in America apparently it is enjoyed by far more Americans. So if we legalise drugs will we have a nation of stoners to laugh at or compliment the alcoholics? I would like to know one good reason for legalising drugs, just one valid reason. Please don’t say to stop drug dealing and murders as we all know this would not happen, you would just have men in suits creating carnage as opposed to lads in baseball caps.

Conan If I feel my views on drugs changing I will take a good long look at my brother and I'm sure they will be restored.

I am sorry for the ructions but I just do not think any good came come of drug use. Clearly we are just all on a different page there is no need for ridicule. Happy blogging people!

Last I looked Guinness, Jameson, Budweiser, Jack Daniels etc didn't have an army of narco-terrorists at their beck and call. You can kill yourself with alcohol but generally people don't die because the product has been tainted with some sort of poison. Reason: because it is regulated. For example Poitin, (anyone know how to do a fada?), although alcohol is illegal, and I remember reading that at least one person a year dies from poisoning, because the drink Poition brewed in lead tanks!

As to your argument that most democratic countries have the same policies. Yes they do. California, Nevada and several other states have decriminalized pot, as has the UK, Germany, The Netherlands and Spain. They seem to be doing nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous4:29 pm

John/Conan Google Diageo's contribution in Africa (Nigeria in particular) and tell me they don't do just as good a job as some of Irelands drug dealers.

"California, Nevada and several other states have decriminalized pot, as has the UK, Germany, The Netherlands and Spain"

On a global scale this remains a minority. What benefit to society is there of legalising drug’s? What benefit is there of taking drugs? Nobody seems to be capable of giving a reasonable answer, it has turned into a plight to justify your own habits and abuse me. Why? because I think drugs are bad and legalising them will only make the situation worst. Apparently I am immature and have a lot to learn, right so when I do get to your age I will be blessed with wisdom, wisdom that will equip me to justify drug use and abuse anybody I disagree with.

'twas the bronzer that did it. It's obvious poor Katy OD'd on the stuff, she's more orange than an old man in a bowler hat and sash marching on the 12th.

On a more serious note, as much as we may enjoy mocking public figures for their self-centered escapades behind closed doors there are real feelings and people close to them affected from what seems to be a self-inflicted tradgedy.

Seems to be shaping up to be sad case of live fast, die young and leave a good-looking corpse eh? Jim Morrison she's not.

BTW I'm for decriminalisation and legalisation of *soft* drugs such as weed and 'shrooms. IMHO man-made white powdered substances of any stripe are just bad news.

Here in California "medical marijuana" is by perscription only, i.e. for chemothreapy relief, glaucoma or to stimulate appetite in AIDS patients. It's a small step forward but its not like Amsterdam where you can walk into coffeeshop and have a toke.

The UK, Germany and California - 2 of the G8 and one of the largest economies in the west? C'mon Nonny, on a global scale they are fu*king huge!

"What benefit to society is there of legalising drug’s?" - That has already been explained (taking the dealers off the streets, reducing crime, cutting funding for criminal organisations, making drugs safer etc)

"What benefit is there of taking drugs?" - Do you ever have a wee pint? Same thing but more potent.

"it has turned into a plight to justify your own habits and abuse me" - everyone here is just reacting to your hardline comments, the same as the last few discussions.

  34. Nonny, go ahead and criminalize a cancer patient who needs to use a little weed to dull the pain and nausea of chemo and spark an appetite so they can EAT something to fucking LIVE. That's a good plan.

No one's ridiculing you, though you love to pull that card and play victim when someone disagrees with you or points out the flaws in your blanket statements and judgmental tone. I've noticed that over the last few weeks in several places. Spout some outrageously unforgiving opinion and pass judgment on some human failing, and then when someone bites back you go "oh, didn't mean to offend, everyone's picking on me. Happy blogging."

    Very passive-aggressive, by the way.

    It is offensive.

"Perhaps I am all of those things you all said but if there is no medical reason to take drugs I cannot see justification for it."

And I call the following ridicule,

"while others put your asinine comments and attacks down to your age, I think age is not your problem. I think you really are just a self-righteous, fundamentalist, judgmental little zealot"

    or

"You are a fantasist and a crashing bore"

I didn't abuse you like that. I don't mean to cause offence I am just Continually shocked by opinions some people express, unlike you I tend not to resort to name calling I reserve that for TM.

What names did I call you?
You're right, they don't form the majority of countries, but they are among the most influential and relevant to our lifestyles.
Would you rather talk about the most populous countries and the huge drug problems they have there?

"more potent than a pint you say? Well maybe thats why it is fucking illegal" - should we then criminalise spirit consumption?

I have to agree with Andraste, you make grand, sweeping statements without thinking them through, and then try to defend them to the bitter end, despite the weight of evidence and opinion against you.

Again I'm not ridiculing you, just saying how I see it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nonny,

"What benefit to society is there of legalising drug’s? What benefit is there of taking drugs?"

Plenty. I went to the funeral of a woman recently. She had breast cancer that spread to her lungs adn brain. At the end, the only thing that gave her any kind of relief was marijuana. California law says it's legal but Federal law says it's illegal - a confusing situation for the public and law-enforcement alike. The feds regularly try and trupm the state on this in their own little pissing contest and raids happen all the time. So it was that this poor woman, a thoroughly law-abiding devout and sincere Catholic and mother of 4, found herself in her final days, hunched in her house like a criminal with the curtains shut, scared out of her wits by the illegality of what she was doing but trying to get some relief that this insidious threat to society could get. Tell me what is right about that?

The war on drugs is an utter failure. Much of the problem with drugs stems from the fact they are lucrative from field to vein/nostril/whatever. There is a shitload of money to be made by scumbags at every level. Something as copious and readily available should not command the sort of money that is keeping Colombian drug lords in solid gold toilet handles.

Legalising drugs would take away the "dangers" of distributing it and take the money out of the equation. (From the consumer end too - coke is not expensive because its an inherently expensive substance but because getting it to customers is so tricky). If there is no profit to be made in drugs the following things happen:

Violence, murder, intimidation and de facto fealty are reduced in the producing country. Have you read what life is like for a peasant farmer in Colombia? Often it can be described simply as just short and brutalised.

Resources at borders are given back to things like stopping terrorists getting into the country, preventing human trafficking, stopping illegal immigration and basically doing the things border control is supposed to do.

Appalling wastage is cut: The US spends upwards of 20 billion a year with maybe one newsworthy success every 5 years. $600 dollars a minute. Read this: http://www.drugsense.org/wodclock.htm
There are plenty other sites detailing the wastage.

On the streets, with serious money taken out of the process, there is less drug-related crime. Junkies don't need to go shooting grannies up for their pension books if coke is worth the pennies it ought to be.

Turf wars amongst criminal gangs for distribution decrease. Bad guys don't get money basically. And we all sleep a wee bit safer in our beds.

The illegal arms trade, which is largely funded on money made through drugs, is massively reduced meaning tinpot dictators are not given the means with which to terrify their people, slay their opposition and set up their own military juntas.

The world becomes slightly less sordid with legalisation of drugs because, freely available, they aren't worth much and bad guys everywhere lose.

I would, however, say keep it away from kids but as we already do so with alcohol and tobacco that seems a given.

I'm sorry about your brother, that's too bad. He is an adult though, and the havoc he wreaks is of his own doing. There's a certain % of personalities in every culture that will give seriously themselves over to whatever is available to them.

Where I come from it's true - I've known two guys who died and one girl who is vegetablised as a result of taking drugs. I also know of at least 8 people who have died in alcohol related car crashes , getting lost in the snow after a heavy night and dying on the moor, and falling off the pier drunk and drowning. 8 off the top of my head dead to alcohol, and so many near misses it makes me sick to think about it. Are we going to ban beer? Hell no! Nobody wants that. I don't want that. American prohibition shows how that just made good people unhappy and bad people rich.

God, I haven't had my coffee yet. Here endeth the screed because I need my legal morning neurological stimulant.

FMC, today's discussion has really entertained me.
Made me smile - much thanks to Nonny (and no offence meant here, okay, eh!?)
But yes, this is a serious topic.
And FMC, your last post really summed it up for me.
We all live and learn. Some embrace drugs, others don't, and in the end - it's one big grey area, depending from case to case.
I use drugs. Because I drink alcohol - a lot!
Nonny: For me, there is no f*cking difference between snorting a line of coke or having a glass of wine.
    I'm generalising of course, but.
    Nope, it's all the same.
In the end, I'm a DRUG USER.
If you feel you "need it", yeah, that's me.
I get upset when people talk about "how much worse" (for instance) coke would be to (for instance) alcohol.
    F*cking bullshit.
The fact that one of the two is "LEGAL" has no meaning to me.
    So much bullshit.
Let me clarify - I don't use any "illegal drugs" - I use a "legal" drug.
Does that make me a "better person"?
    Hell-f*cking- NO!
I have used coke too, but only briefly, and to be perfectly honest, I think it could have been better for me than all the booze (why do you think all the super models use it, eh?)
From all the studies I've done, and reading (yes, this might shock you, Nonny), I think that maybe the "illegal drugs" might have actually been better than the legal ones...
So here I am, with my LEGAL DRUG alcohol.
    WISHING.
    I.
    Had.
    A.
    Line.
    To.
    Sniffffffffffffffffff.

    Oh.

I saw a really fascinating documentary which showed that leaglising heroin would allow those addicted to live more normal lives in that if they were prescribed a 'fix' to take each day they would no longer have to spend their entire day robbing to get money to acquire drugs. This allowed these addicts to maintain jobs and homes and so gradually wean themselves off the drug.

Another excellent byproduct of legalising herion was that the quality of the drug was higher so infections were no longer an issue.

To me - helping people get their lives back on track seems like a pretty good reason to legalise drugs.

How mature you all are. I dont really think those fighting for freedom of speech intended it to be used to allow stupid people make accusations like she deserved to die for wearing fur. The moderator here seems to think that they shouldn't delete these posts on account of 'freedom of speech', ever heard of hate speech that is defamatory in nature well that contravenes freedom of speech legislation. But no doubt you will continue to leave posts up which are blatently offensive nonetheless.

Katy French's death was indeed tragic, she played with fire and unfortunately has paid the ultimate price. As one blogger said just because she died tragically doesn't mean we should pretend to like her now-true but you don't have to belittle her to make yourself feel better either.

People have also levelled the claim that if it was drugs it is her own fault, but shouldn't her friends who left her in bed and didn't call an ambulance share some blame too? Shouldn't society as a whole take some blame too? We have become a nation all too ready to accept the excessive highs of drug use without really thinking seriously about the consequences. It is tragic in this day and age that three young people should die in the one week so needlessly and so avoidably.
It is tragic, heartbreaking and despairing that our country has sunk to these depths.
It is perhaps equally so though that Irish people aren't learing their lesson from it.

As one blogger said Katy has an extended family that may stumble across this at some point so if fatmammycat is too ignorant and irresponsible to understand the meaning of freedom of speech please at least think before you post needless comments berating the girl for her choices. She has paid the ultimate price, let that be enough.

Anonymous - why don't you just fuck off! We still have free speech, and as the man said "I may not like what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it!" If you don't like the concept of free speech, why don't you go live in Burma or Saudi Arabia - you'll find a few like minded folk there to keep you company.

Even in the most sexually liberated and self-satisfied of nations, many people still yearn to burn more, to feel ready for bedding no matter what the clock says and to desire their partner of 23 years as much as they did when their love was brand new.
The market is saturated with books on how to revive a flagging libido or spice up monotonous sex, and sex therapists say “lack of desire” is one of the most common complaints they hear from patients, particularly women.
