Divorce is Dirty.

When Christie Brinkley's husband, Peter Cook, decided to dance a horizontal mamba with someone other than his wife you can bet your last shiny Euro he wasn't expecting it to end up with him answering questions about his private life in open court.
Yesterday's court transcripts make for cringe making reading, I feel slightly grubby reading about his porn surfing and masturbation for video cameras. I say slightly, because I'm still bloody reading and if I had more gumption I'd gloss over the details and go read something else.
But human nature being what it is, salacious details of others keep a body interested.
A couple of quotes...
' The normally staid Suffolk County courthouse in Central Islip turned into an adults-only peep show when the 49-year-old cad admitted under oath that he habitually ogles online pornography, masturbates in front of strangers via a Web cam, and even had sex inside his office with the comely clerk.

His barely legal mistress-turned-star-witness Diana Bianchi then nervously took the witness stand yesterday and detailed how she gave herself up to him after several advances within weeks of being hired.

She also said Cook leaned on her to help him cover up the affair.

Among the dirty details also laid bare yesterday:

* Cook began flirting with Bianchi when she was only a high-school student and cashier at a toy store. He admitted he hired her with sex on his mind.

* Cook spent $3,000 a month on Web porn, pleasured himself on a Web cam, and trolled for sex partners on swinger sites using handles such as wannaseeall and happyladdie2002.

* He paid his teenage mistress $20,000 in "salary" in addition to gifts of lingerie, jewelry and cash.

* He tried to cover up the affair, and ultimately paid Bianchi $300,000 in hush money.

* Brinkley found pornographic images on Cook's computer - and their preteen son, Jack, accidentally saw them, too.

* Cook tried to bail himself out by revealing he and Brinkley viewed porn together as a "precursor" to sex. "

Okay, this chap is a bit of a douche, well, a lot of a douche, but what on Earth is Christie doing opening this case up to the public? Everyone knows he was caught cheating, no one would blame her for divorcing him, but this is something else, this is humiliation on a epic scale. She claims she is doing this so that her children might understand the 'reasons' for the breakup of her marriage. But surely she could explain what happened in private.
I don't understand her. She and cook have two children together, as much as a douche as I think he is, I don't think she's doing herself any favours either. Surely it would be better to protect her children from the trauma of listening to their parents sex lives being gossiped about, paraded out for public consumption. Surely it's not beneficial to them to hear all these salacious details.

Cook's lawyer has this to say. ' "He did it and it was wrong," Sheresky said of the affair. "And we said so. And there is no way to make this right. Peter has apologized. He's cried his eyes out. He's lost his marriage."

He then pointed out that Brinkley herself has a poor marital track record.

"For goodness sake: She's on her fourth husband," Sheresky told the court. "Your honor, we're here because of the self-indulgent wrath of a woman scorned . . . That's putting her agenda in front of the best interests of the children. What kind of a mother wants her husband flogged in public?"

Her marriages are not under scrutiny, she believed her marriage to Cook to be a good one, so trying to suggest that she is at fault here is bollocks. But I cannot disagree with him with regards to the children.

Brinkley's hurt and rage, Cooks shame and embarrassment notwithstanding, their children are the ones now who will be hurting. It's not about who started this whole seedy affair, but how it is handled and a little grace might go a very long way.

She shouldna hooked up with a Downtown man. A bit of rough is always just that! Har.

  2. Snarf, but isn't Cook as uptown as they come?

  3. Anonymous11:06 am

Some people are just naturally downtown, even if they have been born with the silver spoon and aristocratic trappings. Prince Charles has proved himself to be a bit of a downtown man!

    Hell hath no fury, eh?
Completely agree FMC, there is no reason for the case to be public. In fact, why is the case even happening if he has admitted guilt?

She's angling for a book deal and the talk show circuit.

  6. $3,000 a month on porn? That's dedication for you.

  7. Excellent point Shebah.

Sheepie, it's about money, although there are issues about custody apparently. But this smacks of public humiliation.

Conan, I doubt it, I'm pretty sure she could garner one of those if she wanted as is.

God damn I wish it would stop raining. Irish summer how are ye?

  8. Twenty, I guess his gibblets had a hankering for some top end beejuu. Cost him a lot more in the long run wouldn't you say?

I think he deserves it, thats what the dirty bugger gets for manipulating and taking advantage of a young girl, then breaking up a family home, betraying the trust of two children and his wife. Let him face public ridicule, maybe it will act as a deterrent for would be home wreckers. The fuckers they get to ruin or upset peoples lives then walk away scott free.

    Nonny

    ReplyDelete
  10. He's wasn't getting away scot free though was he. And it's not about him. What about their children. I understand her fury, I do, but he's still their father, they still love him and deserve to have their relationship with him unchecked and untarnished.
Dragging his personal sex life into open court does nothing except sully them all.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Anonymous11:34 am

Same as FMC said Nonny - he maybe deserves it, but the kids certainly don't.

$3,000 a month during a credit crunch! Whats wrong - too good for the free sites eh?

  12. Anonymous11:40 am

Off course he was, he gets divorced, the fact that he broke up their home, completely distorted the children’s lives, betrayed the ideals of trust and engaged in an illicit affair with “barley legal” girl is just ignored. What kind of message is that for children, it is ok to betray the people you love, to be immoral and walk all over people purely because he is a parent? I don’t think so. They should know what he did was wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anonymous11:40 am

Yes but with all the sordid details in open court there'll be no need to have them 'legalled' out of the book.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anonymous11:44 am

"They should know what he did was wrong"
And in an open court in a highly publicised case is the best way to do that?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Does Wimbledon have to be dragged into every discussion this week?

And you think they wouldn't have known it was wrong if it wasn't dragged through the courts?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Nonny, there's no need for young children to hear sordid detail of their parent's sex lives to understand that their father was the culprit in their parent's divorce.
There's no need for their friends and teachers and peers to hear about it either. Who benefits from that?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anonymous11:52 am

As Gimme infers, once you're in the courts it's love-all.

    ReplyDelete

I take it he's been served with divorce papers?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anonymous12:00 pm

Yes, if I had two children and their father had just turned their lives upside down I want them to know that it was nothing to do with them and entirely up to their selfish father. I mean you talk about how the children’s regard and love for their father, where was his love and regard for them? Had he really valued them should he not have been trying to sort out his marriage instead of dedicating his time and money to pursuing a young girl and porn.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anonymous12:01 pm

... but he unwisely decided to contest the point?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Now Conan, we'll have to chalk it up to spin, no need for anyone to be underhand about it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Nonny, people can love their children and be reprehensible humans in every other regard, the two are not mutually exclusive. he had an affair with a younger woman, he shouldn't have, but there you go. Exposing his children to every detail benefits no one, certainly not them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous12:06 pm

What, he lobbed in a plea?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I doubt it, I'm sure they'll volley back a forth some more.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous12:20 pm

Well she gets half his stuff, custody of the kids and gets to tax his earnings for life.

She'd prefer a happy family no doubt but still not a bad windfall.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well I'm sure if he'd kept his winkle out of Miss Bianchi cha-cha that might not have happened.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Apparently Christie had offered Cook millions just to go away quietly, but I guess he needed more money for his porn habit so he made the decision to take it to court. I'm sure she's not enjoying having all the dirty details made public, but more power to her for not just rolling over. I'm sure Cook didn't expect his perversions to be public fodder and he's probably kicking himself for not taking the original offer.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous12:38 pm

Well I'm sure if he'd kept his winkle out of Miss Bianchi cha-cha that might not have happened.

oh don't get me wrong, I'm not defending him in the slightest.
He sounds like an asshole of the highest order.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous12:42 pm

"Nonny, people can love their children and be reprehensible humans in every other regard, the two are not mutually exclusive"

I appriciate what your saying but do you not think that when you have a child their best interest becomes paramount?

I mean he would have known that his actions would be detrimental to his family and ultimately to his children yet he carried on with reckless disregard. So in this regard I would definitely question his love and respect for his children.

Further to that if a person engages in sordid activities which are not address or brought to light do you not think that festers and furthers the deceit. If perhaps the children were not told, do you not think that when the eventually find out they will feel cheated?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anonymous12:55 pm

Nonny, do you feel cheated that your wee brother hasn't told you he masturbates? Probably not, because its of no relevance to your relationship.

Knowing that their dad cheated on their mother and f**ked them around is enough. They don't need to know the details.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous12:57 pm

Especially in such a public way.

    ReplyDelete
  33. They're not adults Nonny, simple as. A woman can say 'I am divorcing your father or daddy and I are splitting up, we both still vpe you very much' as easily as 'We're splitting up, you're dad shagged some tart in his office and his likes to wank on camera while looking at porn.'
Either way the kids are going to discover the details at some point, but dragging the whole sordid thing through open court is not in the best interest of those children.

Annie, this was/is about custody, Cook wants it and so they went to court, but it was Brinkley who insisted on the court being an open one.

I don't defend Cook in any way shape or form, he's a complete coil of dried smegma.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 'vpe' = 'love' stupid cat crossing the keyboard.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous1:38 pm

Brinkley's 22 year old daughter seems quite well adjusted and is standing right by her mother so clearly the mother isn't that bad. Plus Cook still thinks he is the better parent, so clearly he has learned nothing from this. The children should know why their parents broke up. They are entitled to the truth just as their mother is entitled stand up for self.

A parent has a reponsibility to their child, their sexual preferences should take a back seat and if they can't manage that then they deserve the ridicule.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous1:39 pm

    that was me sorry. Nonny.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous2:02 pm

Jesus Nonny, are you arguing just for the sake of it? The kids DO know why their parents broke-up. They have the truth.
The question is why do the children NEED to know that their dad was videoing himself spanking the monkey? Like I've said, he may 'deserve the ridicule' but his kids don't.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nonny, yes, the children should know why their parents are breaking up. But should all their school friends, and everyone they come in contact with, because it's been made public? So now they have to know that everyone else in the world knows what a douche their father is? Kids are cruel - it's not just about them knowing, it's about having to bear ridicule for something that isn't their fault. I can hear the schoolyard taunting now, and that's just cruel. THIS reason alone should be enough to keep this shit private.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jesus Nonny, are you arguing just for the sake of it?

Every time I comment on something you go out of your way to criticise me, not just what I say me personally. And you do it with conviction. All because you have some obscure perception of me. Yet, you don’t know me or anything about me at all. You just quoted what I said on Twenty’s site and brought it into a whole different argument on a different blog. Why would you do that?

Also, calling you a weirdo was mean, for that I apologies.

    Nonny

    ReplyDelete
  45. Andraste! What ho! You're alive and kicking and out from under your over loaded work pile I take it? Is it raining where you are? I bet it's not.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Firstly, if I criticised every comment you made I'd never leave my desk. Sometimes the things you come out with you are so self-contradicting, prejudiced and downright ridiculous that I am unable to help myself. And I try to do everything with conviction. Except when I'm doing them with abandon.

Secondly, you've claimed 'victim of bullying' status on numerous occasions, on this site as well as on Twenty's. It's one of your things. Didn't you know?

And finally, apology accepted. Though you could probably have done better than 'weirdo'. Ever since 'Pablo Honey' that's pretty much a term of endearment.

nonny, you take things far too seriously.

you kinda contradict yourself there, he attacks you personally but he doesn't know anything about you.

I think people tend to pick on you a bit because you make very judgemental comments about things and when people criticise them you get easily riled.

I do not know what you mean in the last paragraph and what I said on Twenty's site was in jest.

"Sometimes the things you come out with you are so self-contradicting, prejudiced and downright ridiculous that I am unable to help myself."

Who are you to say that about my opinions? What makes your opinions more valid than mine? I do not contradict myself at all as I said before I am probably one of the few who tell the truth about themselves.

Your relentless plight to appear the uncaring cunning and witty blogger is well, relentless.

    I don't mind Morgor.

If it were just disagreeing with my opinions and venting your own that would be fine but it is not. One of the first arguments Gimmie had with me was when the good lady was looking for something, jeans I think and I jokingly said something about scarifying your mortgage for clothes, Gimmie gave out hell, highlighting how privileged I should feel because I own my own house I mean what the hell is that about, he knows nothing about me so who is he to do that? That was irrelevant to the argument. He does it constantly. Are we not all adults here can you not dissagree with a persons opinions and then put it behind you, I just don't understand it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I miss so much what with the time difference.

I'm still stuck on the $3,000. a month on porn. It brings to mind one of Woody Allen's great lines in "Annie Hall" when he says "don't kock masturbation. It's sex with someone I love."

Cook is a turd but Brinkley has gone overboard.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous3:38 pm

    With good reason Morgor.

Nonny: All opinions are not equally valid. Im not saying the majority of commenters on FMC are always right, but they can all usually argue a case eloquently and with a general weight of evidence. When you feel that weight of evidence against you, you tend to cry 'bully!' or dig yourself further into an illogical argument rather than saying 'fair enough, good point'.

I don't dislike you because I don't know you, but some of the arguments and opinions you express here and elsewhere are bound to get people's backs up.

    ReplyDelete

Sheepy I am sorry buy I think you are just a follower, I have never once seen you disagree with a post.

And Gimmie that does not make sense. It is part of your strategy when you can't make a valid argument you be absurd.

  58. Sheepy I am sorry buy I think you are just a follower, I have never once seen you disagree with a post.

And every time you resort to petty insults...

...unless that was actually a clever little joke. But I doubt it.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I be absurd, be I?

    Let me explain Nonny.

You say we should put things behind us and yet you bring up an old argument. Do you see any contradiction there?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anonymous3:55 pm

    Andraste's back! Yaaaay! Howya bin?

Ugly business. Not classy at all to drag it all into open court either. I agree that his kids shouldn't be punished for the sins of the father.

Nonny, you do get into some scraps and more frequently than any other blogger I know. Could it be therefore that you might be being a bit heavy-handed in your comments? Your tone sometimes can be inflammatory.

You seem to have a very rigid moral code and a very punitive mind-set which is a bit hard for many people to swallow. But just because people disagree does not make us all a bunch of arseholes, drifting with the tide, and without moral compass. We are all a lot more complex than that and the more years you get under your belt the more that becomes obvious. I have to say though, even for your youth, you can be very damning in your judgments and I guess the rest of us don't always see things in such black and white terms.

It's fine to disagree but the tone in which you disagree can reveal whether or not you are out and out contemptuous of another person and their point of view.

Life is not clear, by any means. It certainly isn't black and white. We're all just trying to figure stuff out the best we can the same as you. The difference is most of us don't think the hardest possible line is always the line to take - people need a bit of charity - but more than that, the difference is that we don't infer people who disagree with us are complete arses and when people do disagree, it's rarely as personal as you make it out to be.

I'm preferring to think you're just outspoken, very, very young, and a bit more draconian than average. You need to cut other commeters some of that slack, put yourself in someone else's shoes and don't assume we're all as immoral and stupid as you seem to sometimes.

    ReplyDelete

Me and my sheep-like tendancies, eh Nonny?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anonymous4:08 pm

are you mad Twenty, "everytime I resort to petty jokes", you of all people! I know there is a humourous angle there but I was serious. It all boils down to agreeing with the blog host then attacking anyone who disagrees.

"I back up everything I say. EVERYTHING."

"Please don’t judge me of your own standards, I am a lady."

It almost seems that Ms Brinkley is wanting to declare to the world, 'It may be my fourth divorce, but this one was really justified.'

I don't get the point you are making Morgor. What the bit were I said to you that I am a lady was a joke, in fact as I re-read I see that we joked about it even further down the comments.

I don't know, I think maybe the main issue is that each blog attracts say similar readers and I am totally at odds with them, the fact that I like this blog is an anomaly :(

Also, when there is a rift you see people make comments like, "this is exciting" or "I love a fight in the blog" or "I love the confrontation" etc etc and considering I seem to be easily riled commentors play on that to a large extent. So I think I have been quite foolish there. All in all I don't know I can't apologies for what I think.

    Goodnight all anyway.

  92. Nonny, tomorrow is another day, nobody says everybody has to agree with everyone all the time, I believe I've said this on many an occasion. It's all good, every debate needs a different view, or else it would all be very dull, no?
    Tomorrow is GINGERDAY! Huzzah!

LOU! I'll check that link in the morning, but the marathon training is going grudgingly and painfully, I'm planning to take an hour of last year's time, but darling my head may be WAY up in the clouds. Either way, this month sees the start of commitment, I even ran in the sodding rain tonight.
    Speaking of night, goodnight all.

Nonny, to be honest I wasn't 100% sure you were joking, so i thought I'd either wind you up a bit or make it a joke.

Other times you can come across as being very extreme.

Maybe you're not as serious as i thought!

These blogs do attract people of a broadly similar mindset each of whom are entitled to their own opinion, however the host deserves a certain amount of courtesy. I believe Nonny has alot to say by way of personal opinion therefore Nonny would it not be beneficial for you to start your own blog. You will see then that people will indeed express their opinions and you will have first dibs on yours.
