I'm going to see it Wednesday - an all female group - as the partners refuse to come. Some of our group are seeing it for a second time, so it must be good. We will dance in the aisles. Looking forward to it - I love ABBA - best party music for getting everybody on the floor, even people who dance like locusts. Mamma Mia, how can I resist ya!
FMC, it could potentially be worse. where i grew up in buffalo, it was a live, dinner theatre production that required some serious audience participation....
Just in, there were some cocktails involved, movie was quite funny and foot tappingly entertaining, Mizz Streep was AMAZING, that woman could sell me more hair if she wanted. Pierce Brosnan can't sing for toffee, but man he can toally wear a suit. All in all a rather enjoyable afternoon. I need to stop being such a fucking cynic. I'll try. The paramour is making meat. There is beer. It's not raining, it's a bank holiday Monday and I don't need to work eeeeeeeeeeeeffffffffffffff.
I really wanna see it! For Marvo Meryl but also for the ABBA tunes. We used to play ABBA when we were wee, with our hairbrushes. I remember us at age 7, I was Agnetha (I was way blonde back then), Sheena was Ana-Freida and if there was nobody else there, our dogs played Benny and Bjorn. My older cousin got "Money Money Money" from Santa one Christmas and I thought she was so cool.
I hope this comment does not get me banned from all your sites. But I just loves me all that kitsch so I do! That hair! Those headbands! And the fabby fabby flares. What's not to love?
FMC - did any of the audience dress up Abba style? Over here, women are dressing to the Abba theme, going in the gear, blue satin jump suits, white long boots, Agneta and Frida wigs, the full kitch. Har! (They also did it for Sex and the City -but that was easier - just outrageous glam. huge fake flowers and killer heels!)
Sorry FMC, but whoever is dragging you to see this must hate you. There is no other logical explanation.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem as though I'm being punished for something all right.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, but suddenly the universe seems very very wrong.
ReplyDeleteIt do, don't it? Right, off I go, maybe it won't be as bad as I think.
ReplyDeletecrikey that's enough to test even the strongest friendship......

ReplyDeleteMy deepest sympathies... that a perfectly good friendship should die thusly is a terrible thing.
ReplyDeleteABBA's not my cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteBut Meryl Streep is almost always worth watching. I read that she really shakes it up here.

Good lord, you'll totally love it. And you may quiver during 'the winner takes it all'.
ReplyDeleteI have nothing against them - but none of them or this moves me. Will Mamma Mia convert me? Should I take the plunge? Can I wait for the dvd?
ReplyDeleteGo along, have a gander. I was dead against it but found a quaint, slightly twee, feel good movie that doesn't to be anything it is not.

ReplyDeleteNot that I noticed, but it was an afternoon show so perhaps folk were more conservative.
