No Honour Amongst Thieves, Murderers or Drug Dealers.

Not so very long ago the Joe Duffy Radio show had that self-important knob Paul 'Insert catchy title' Williams on his radio show. Paul was doing his usual line of shtick talking about how Someone 'fats/the lips/Larry the lamb' Somethingorother had fled the country after a second man had taken out a contract on his life. It was the usual Williams self aggrandising tabloid style bleat, with lots of talk and very little concrete fact. So little in fact that when the Lips/lamb/Fats combo called the show to disprove his fleeing the country there was a talk off between them.
Now a talk off between a Journalist who chest beasts and scumbag who answers questions by repeating the same question is funny, but wearing after a while there's only so much...
'Do you deal drugs?'
'Do I deal drugs?"
...a person can listen too, even if you are delighted to hear it. However on that fateful day a most fantabulous thing did happen. The man-John Daly- who was supposed to have a contract out on Fats/Lamb/Lips/Lucky/The viper/The Wiper suddenly calls the show and WHOAH to back up Lam/viper/Sniper/Commander Riker, and suddenly it's on. Duffy couldn't believe his luck, right up to and probably including the moment when John Daly called Paul Williams a cunt live on air.
But there was fall out.
You see John Daly was in Portlaoise Prison serving a sentence for armed robbery when he called the show from a mobile phone. And in the subsequent uproar the prison was searched to see how he came to possess such an item. In the ensuing searches and crack down was ordered. The guards found the prisoners of Portlasoise to be surprisingly well stocked up on mobile phones, wide screen TVs and even a budgie. Feather were ruffled, and I don't mean the budgie.
All the contraband was confiscated and the miscreant fingers were pointed very clearly at one John 'Big Mouth' Daly.

Well, time and tide wait for no man, Gamma used to say, and last night the tide came in for John Daly.

He was sitting in a car on Cloonlara Drive in Finglas just before 2am this morning when he was shot a number of times.

He died a short time later at the Mater Hospital.

There is no honour amongst thieves, but in today's red top culture you can be sure there is no honour amongst 'journalists' either. I wonder how long it will be before Williams has himself another book deal?

Well, as long as they're just wiping eachother out, it doesn't really bother me that much.
Its like the UDA feud up here - no one really cares as long as no innocents are hurt.

Morning Sheepworrier. Unfortunately, as Anthony Campbell was a perfect example, there's plenty of innocents who get caught in the cross fire of the bloody thugs down here.

I listened to it live, FMC and I had one thought. When Williams was saying to Daly "you are an XYZ, sue me if I am telling lies", he was setting a dangerous precedent. First of all, he was by-passing the law, who are supposed to deal with crime (I know, I know), he was making an allegation where he said he had proof, but didn't produce it, he was making a name for himself and in doing so, he was, in all likelihood, saying to other tabloid journos that this is a way to make a name for yourself and he was acting as judge, jury (and executioner) on live radio.

I'm quite sure Daly was a complete XXXX and nobody asked him to phone Duffy's programme, but this is the stuff of lynch mobs and weekend warriors, not the stuff of a mature democracy.

I felt I could hear it in Daly's voice during the interview that he then knew that he was a dead man.

What we need is a voice of sanity like Michael Healy-Rae to sort this out.

I have the scene from Goodfellas with the couple shot in the pink Cadillac in my head now, FMC.

One of my favourite films that. I love that scene when Pesci realises he's not going to be a made guy.
Docky2, you're quite right, it's all slavering shoot'em up nonsense masquerading as 'the voice' of the people. Sick making really.
Twenty, he really is. The way he's turned himself into a talking head is disgusting.

Williams is such an utter wanker but he is simply echoing the thoughts of half the nation. People are quick to rest on their laurels, pass judgement and condemn people with complete and utter disregard for our supposed democracy and judicial system. The whole thing is a fiasco. I understand why many feel we should “let them kill each other” but this is not just nor is it a viable solution. Perhaps preventing the ramped slaughter would be a more appropriate and in the best interest of society as a whole. What happened to common sense? Our prison system is a shambles, at the news of each shooting the government issue a litany of promises that never materialise, the Garda do little to catch the culprits and the consequences for criminals seem to be as much of a deterrent as the threat of there mother giving them the wooden spoon. All we can do it go “Oi you, you’re a criminal”. We know the fundamental blame is with criminals but as their title denotes they are hardly likely to give a shit. Focusing attention on them is about as much use as an underwater hairdryer.

We've go a swing door operating in our jails and a flip a coin mentality in our courts. I mean Jesus Christ, John Gilligan's son was only fined today for having 1000 euros worth of cocaine on him WITH intent to supply. And this is AFTER he failed to show up for his last court case. A fine is nothing to him. not even a slap on the wrist.

Just as stories go though, that's an excellent mini-saga. They both phoned the radio show, one from prison, mind, and then the other guy buys it in his car, they find contraband budgies in the prison and the public get to listen to most of it live on-air. Bloody hell, we never get that on Radio Nan Gaidheal. It's all, "Citizens Angry About New Wheelie-Bin Law" an' junk.

I saw that and cannot understand it at all. Why are these issues not being addressed? The Garda had a mental breakdown of epic proportion when it was suggested that there would be an independent body to deal with complaints, I didn’t read one article that questioned their motives. There has been little in the way of judicial reform and judges are not questioned for the pathetic sentences they are handing down. I mean look at that case in Limerick last year the judge was prepared to put witnesses in jail as they where to afraid to testify in court, logic defies me, it is an absolute disgrace. Why on earth do Irish people sit back and not question or challenge such matters? It is beyond me.

PS I’m in the fucking horrors now, thank you.

One of the charges against Williams is that he is doing what the Gardai are not allowed to do and that is to foment discontent among the criminal classes, saying out loud that Johnny one-eye is responsible for the death of Joey three-eyes, etc. Thereby resulting in Joey's four-eyed brothers (all twelve of them, all called Joey) rounding on little Johnny and rubbing him out.

Anyway, you know what I mean. Bottom line: this is not how to reduce crime and make it safer. If anything it glorifies it, makes the criminals famous, raises the temperature, starts new feuds.

I'm just waiting for the day one of these guys tries to take over Spiral's place as gangsta rapper king of Ireland. That's where the front line is going to be soon.

Evening folks. Medbh I did, most amusing.
Sam, that wounds like an excerpt from The Wicklow People.
Nonny, no point in letting it let you down.
Docky2, williams is a stooge and an easy one at that. He likes nothing more than stirring the pot and setting the police cat amongst the crook pigeons. Then he gets to act vulture like on the fallout while playing the untouchable. Win win for him
