motivation for fatcats and possibly for chumlies of Fatcats!

Tuesday-15k 15k 15k, 15k 15k 15kaaaaaaaay. Oh it were cold and it were hard and it were a bit achy on my right hip, but it
were done.

Wednesday, wet- I did a soggy 5k look around the 'hood came home and performed some seriously poor attempts at yoga.

Thursday- looked at skipping rope, looked at ceiling, looked at rain. More yoga.

Friday- 20 push ups, 50 sit ups, 50 star jumps, another 50 sit ups. Am building jump box. It rained, a lot.

Saturday- I"m still in my jammies, but I've got a 10k planned for this afternoon. It's threatening rain, but holding off. Am bringing jump rope in my fanny pack. The 000 on the counter is starting to mock me.

A point of interest, the not drinking is causing my weight to drop. I'm no more active than usual, in fact due in no small part to the sodding weather I"m considerably less active than normal. So my one or two pound drop per week over the last three weeks is only due to my lack of alcohol (and possible helped along by my not eating cheese).
I am starting to miss red meat though. The paramour was scoffing a cheese burger+onions+relish the other day while I dribbled lemon over my cod fillet and I swear to marmalade, if he'd turned his back for even a second I've have snatched it and run off like a fox.
I have also purchased a Breville whole fruit juicer. Now to accompany my egg white omelette and slice of whole meal toast I can blend some fruits and make a good nutritious fruit drink-excellent for me as apart from bananas and plums I'm not a big fruit eater. Huzzah. Or something.
However tonight I go to the cinema to finally see No country for old men, and thus another alcohol free night shall pass. Yes I've been sleeping better, yes I have more energy, blah blah chee di rah, I'd have sold my soul to Memnoch himself last night for a glass of good red. Fortunately I got over it and then I felt better. I can't believe I was stupid enough to say I'd do this until the end of Feb-especially seeing as I LIKE drinking- but there you have it. My resolve might falter here and there but my stubborn streak will prevail.
Either way, I'm sure some of you are suffering slightly today and so to you I say 'RASSSSSP.' You may, if you feel inclined, return that rasp next Friday night when you're trundling off to the pub and I am sitting here chewing on my fingers.

  1. Exercise and alcohol play very little part in my life, but I sure know about chewing fingers. Hoorah for your stuborn streak

  2. KIm, I was actually drooling the other day as I watched him scoff that burger. Drooling.

  3. blech blech blech.
I've been waylaid by the flu this week. Before it hit, I tried to do 3.5mi of a continuous run on Sunday, but my legs gave out around 2.5 and I walked the last mile home. Monday I was recuperating, Tuesday I hauled my butt 2.5 miles up to campus, and Wednesday I woke up half dead. Today was the first bit of intentional exercise I've done, and I did a mere 30 minutes of walking on the treadmill (10 of which with those resistance bar thingies that simulate the arm workout part of cross-country skiing, and 10 on 11% incline). It damn near killed me. Nevertheless, I'm planning on doing the pilates thing this afternoon.
If I could only seriously contemplate giving up the booze...I've been pleading with those last five pounds to go ahead and leave me already, to very little effect.
As for the burger craving and the lack of red meat, could you not just use ground turkey? It's not quite the same thing, but with some steak seasoning thrown in, it makes a good enough burger to get you by.

I've never been able to make an egg white omelette cos I just can't bear to toss all these lovely yellow yolks away. I'm more in danger of making an egg yolk omelette. Mmmmmm. Yelloooooow.

Not a bad week for me exercise-wise. Cardio class at gym - hard.
eliptical - quite a lot - bum sore - Yaaaaaaaaay!
Some conditioning machines twice for about 45 minutes each time.

Not wonderful - could have doen more cardio things - but better than nowt, I reckoned.

  5. You're going to looooove NCFOM. Just don't ask the Paramour to grow the man-bob that Bardem is sporting in the film.
I only went to the gym twice this week. My back does feel better for the weights. I was flexing my biceps at dinner last night and everyone had a good laugh.

  6. I agree with Medbh that you'll loooove No Country... I disagree, however, with instructing the Paramour against growing a man-bob. There's something so wrong about it (and Javier's character) that makes it so, so right.
Then again, if your paramour doesn't resemble Javier in the least (and who does, really?), and isn't sociopathic, it might be a good idea to maintain a regular dude cut.

  7. made it out a few times this week - ran twice for about 25 minutes, then walked for 35. i also made it to the gym to lift.... errrr.... once.

i've plenty of excuses, though. like how the semester started, J's best friend came to town and the two of them spent a drunken night keeping the house up, we've a new housemate living on the couch until his room is available, and his little dog DOES NOT STOP BARKING... the foot of snowfall and the utter lack of plowing and how i have to go down a massive hill....

ah sure, all fairly lame. monday starts the 'no, i mean business. really, this time' workout schedule.

as for NCFOM i got quite the scolding the other day. J has fairly curly hair, but wishes it were straight... so he's been growing it out. he took the straightening iron to it and came out to show me the results - and i just about died. he didn't do the sides at all, and before i could stop myself i said 'keep at it - you're really starting to look like the sociopath on NCFOM'. needless to say he was less than pleased.

  8. The paramour wears his hair in a buzz cut. According to him anything more than .5 of an inch and it grows up and out. Wooly I believe he described it.
I saw Javier at the golden globes-sans bob-, he's a hot piece of man flesh and no doubt.

  9. SPOUSE does the same thing, Cat. Keeps it at a permanent crew cut, because he just can't bear to have it curl. I don't mind, never much liked men with long hair anyway...

First workout in almost two weeks! Admittedly an abbreviated one, since I had so much other stuff to do. BUT: 30 minutes on the elliptical, then vacuumed two floors, cleaned bathrooms, four loads of laundry and chasing down Luna to give her her meds...I figured not a bad start to a renewed exercise schedule.

Tomorrow, 45 minutes on the elliptical, plus free weights (bicep, tricep) then some lunges and butt crunches. I'll be well sore by the time my friends arrive to help me drink copious amounts of alcohol and watch my New England Patriots go 18-0. It's the TOM FUCKING BRADY SHOW. HUZZAHHH!!!

I'm not keen on long haired men, neever. I went out with an energetic guy once who looked like the angel Gabriel. He was a truly beautiful man besides, but the hair thing was more of a turn off than anything, not least because it was more beautiful than mine. We were all over each other like a rash all the time but, whenever we paused to take a breath, we had nothing to say to each other. Zippo.

Beautiful he was though... *Falls into reverie*

First week at home and work has been bit like first week back at school. Very lazy. Pool twice for twenty and thirty lengths - had intended to go on Thursday, but due to a scorching 35 degree day the offer of a blizzardly cold at the end of the day was far more appealing than a visit to the pool. Oh well, there's always next week.

  12. I have been suffering through a daughter going through a bit of a teenage meltdown and it seems to be taking a physical toll on me as well as a psychological toll. I go downstairs to work out and find I can only manage about 3/4 of what I usually lift. Pitiful.

Last time I gave up hooch for a while I dropped 10 pounds seemingly instantaneously. Maybe after this teenager drama is over I'll give that a try. I only wish beer wasn't so darn yummy. mmmm beeeer

  13. right, this blog and my rapidly expanding midriff have goaded me into getting up off my bumbum and doing some exercise this week. I'll let you know on friday how i got on. I will run today, lift weights tomorrow, run again on tuesday, rest on wednesday, play football on thursday and try to recover on friday. These are my plans. I have written them down and so they must be stuck to.

(Apologies for the way I finished that last sentence)

  14. First- I just want to say I slept almost 12 hours straight. Why I"m telling you this I cannot say, but it's a minor miracle so I feel like sharing it. Clearly my body needed it and clearly I slipped into a coma one I'd put down 'The Tenderness of Wolves' , But still 12 hours!
2nd, Medbh was right! (she usually is)
NCFOM was awesome, I loved it. The toilets afterwards less so. A quick snap shot, many voices.
'OMIGOD, that was weird, I can believe that happened. I wasn't expecting that. I didn't get it. I didn't understand that, I mean I wasn't expecting that. I didn't get it. What did he mean? Why did that happen? I didn't like the ending.'
Me, mentally. 'SHUT UP. The bloody movie ending was actually better handled than the book.'

Top of the morning to you chumlies and a fine Sunday it looks to be. So fine in fact I think I might head out myself for a gentle poodle through the neighbourhood.
Docky2, welcome aboard, delighted to have you. Don't over do it on your first week and before you run make sure you warm up and stretch out properly. I"m sure you know all of this, but avoiding ouchies is important. Nobody wants salty tears.

Sorry to hear your daughter is having a rough week Annie, poor teenagers, everything seems like the end of the world to them. If only we could put older heads on young shoulders, but sure then they'd never learn. I hope this week is better.

Good luck today Andraste! Hope you're on a winner.

Waves to everyone else, remembers one boyfriend with long hair, remembers same boyfriend also wore cowboy boots, shudders, heads off to toast bagel.

  15. Cowboy boots! Lawdy, FMC. I can't picture you with that guy.

Mr. M had long, long hair when we met. He wasn't a hippy, just too broke to afford regular haircuts. Now he has the shaved down look and I like it. It reminds me of the Matrix.

In NCFOM, I wanted him to kill the fat nosey hick in the gas station.

  16. I liked the way he had him tied up in knots and that smile... 'if you mix it up, it's just a coin...' smile, 'which it is.' EEEEKK!

  17. I finally got the finger our and started again - for the tri. Did a few hours wattage training on the indoor bike, and I spend 2 days snowboarding over the weekend. I am appropriately stiff. I overshadowed all of that by partying like a rockstar every night up in the mountains. I think I need to follow your example and give up the hooch for a while. Cheese, no feckin' way!

  18. ahem, I had long hair once, and ahhmmm cowboy boots, and a nose ring,(still have a tiny tiny stud, you'd never notice it). The cowboy boots didn't last long. The hair did. I eventually got sick of trying to get my hair out of my eyes when surfing and chopped it off one weekend.

  19. The cheese is a bitch al right, but the alcohol is easy enough apart from friday evening.
Well done for starting the training. Time ticking before a competition is a great motivator..
My first official run is in just over 10 weeks in the park, the Bupa Run. I'm trying to increase my speed and stamina, so much skipping and faster runs, good god I"m so slow.
With you on the long hair, trying it in a bun helps though.

  20. Hi FMC
Good week: Got 3 days in the gym, including first swim lesson. A race in France and a days skiing (woohoo!) and now I have to get stuck into long distance training for Rotterdam marathon. I'm normally well into long 16 milers at this stage! Scary...ah well... You're inspiring me to try eat better FMC, junk is my downfall.

  21. Well done sweetie, especially with the swimming. If you let me know when it is I'll try track your progress on the Rotterdam Marathon. I'll be cyber cheering you on.
