Slapping my mother.

As much as I actively dislike my mother I would NEVER slap her in the face. I might consider poisoning her-indeed I frequently consider poisoning a good many people- but I'd never strike her, no matter HOW fucking insane she drove me. AND I'm an adult. As a child I would have died forty deaths rather than speak to her so disrespectfully. 'Shut up' might have escaped my lips once, but I suspect my next words were 'I'm sooo sorry, please don't kill me.'
Fear and respect, if you can't get one you can always get the other.

  1. Little porker. Take away his Twinkie supply and you'd get him to behave.

  2. Seriously, it that was my son I'd have knocked him on his arse the very second his jabbed his finger at me, never mind the slap.

I don't buy fear and respect go hand in hand but I can honestly say at 26 were I to talk to or slap my Mam even now she would fucking murder me.

I said something terrible to her once when I was about 16, even cried immediately with fright but still got the beating of a life time. But still Dr Phill is a shit head.....I hope he dies......painfully.

If I had a kid like that I would not let him out of his room for a month. No TV, no video games, no computer,no stuffing his face with whatever he's been stuffing his face with. He just gets to stay there until he has learnt some respect.

    He's kinda scary.

I have not the expletives to describe what I think about Dr. Phil.

  10. Could he take up anymore room in that chair with his legs spread like that?
I would have smacked the shit out of him.

  11. Fmc, I suspect if it were any of our offspring even the finger jabbing would not have been contemplated. But she continues to try and talk with him even after he has hit her. Baaaad mistake. Kid has no 'boundaries' as they say, and is in a shit load of trouble when it comes to coping with other people and making compromises.

I suspect I'm in the minority here but she looked like she had it coming.
If my ma called me a little pussy I'd want to sock her too. I'm sure they were all loving each other by the end of the show or at least on the way to some therapy guided mode of communication which didn't resort to slapping and name calling.
    Gee thanks Dr Phil.

  13. I don't think she did call him a pussy-unless I'm not hearing it. I think that was just the jerk who posted the video.
But you're right CL, there's clearly a WHOLE lot going on here. This woman had a daughter who died from cancer, and the boy lost his sister and it seems that after that he completely lost it. That doesn't excuse his slapping his mother, but perhaps he's really really trying to come to terms with something that has overwhelmed him.
Either way, I think they need a very different type of help than what that filthy filcher Phil can offer.
And I would have still slapped manners into him if I had been on the end of his temper outburst.

I hope to God that should I ever have the blessing of little children I rear them to be the exact opposite of this without ever hitting them. I’d be sympathetic to his loss alright but we all seem to have "issues". He was big enough to do it, I would have slapped him right back…..but harder and possible erm…twice!

  15. Can't disagree with that Nonny, the reluctance to hit a parent should be bred into them from the word go.

  16. I'm sorry, but I would like to drop kick porky pants into next week.

However I do remember what a dog control officer said to me once, 'Pretty much all dogs are born good, it's just they're brought up bad.'

  17. Yep LK, like I said earlier, fear and respect for my mother- despite my personal feeling towards the woman- would never have permitted me to act in such a way.

Confession: kids ain't my thing, at all. But I do really like a select few (past squirmy baby monkey stage) whose parents impose loving discipline. Anyhow, just wanted to say that before I get into the animals v kids thing: when they (kids) are very wee, they have no idea what we are saying - they respond to tone - just like our pets. I've observed a few kids who barely have the power of language having a hissy fit: but only bothering to do so with the parent who responds to such silliness. We're all animals to a lesser or higher degree, and wee ones (kids)how learn VERY quickly the tone, the adults they can push etc. If they are tolerated in all their foibles, they will grow up to be shits. Kids have to learn that you don't get everything you want, that whining isn't the way to get it, and that you can't have everything NOW. The sooner learnt, the better.

    Sheesh.

  19. Aye, but it's funny how some parents never even have to raise their voice to get you to behave. My father was one, he just had a way about him, if he said, 'I'm very disappointed in you' I'd nearly feel sick, but my mother on the other hand could be screaming and carrying on and I'd eventually just tune her out.
The young 'un in the video looks to me like a kid that needs a short sharp shock, followed up by plenty of fair rules and fair boundaries-like Conan mentioned. You've got to earn your freedoms as a kid, not throw a hissy fit or attack your parents until you get your own way. A sort of quid pro quo, but without Anthony Hopkins.
I really dislike Dr Phill. I blame Oprah for for releasing his brand of smug down home aw shucks psycho babble into the world.

How does a child get to the point at his age where he thinks he's on an equal/higher footing with his mother? And why would he think it's OK to slap her?
On a side issue stopping feeding him for 6 months wouldn't hurt either. I imagine she sticks things in his mouth just to avoid what comes out of it.
