Child Cruelty

During the four-week trial the jury heard the child suffered abuse that the prosecution said amounted to torture — she was slapped, punched and kicked; flung against a wall; and held high in the air and then dropped onto the floor. The child was placed in a clothes dryer and spun at high heat, whirled rapidly on a rotary clothesline until flung off, and was subjected to wrestling moves copied from a computer game. At one point, she was left lying unconscious for 36 hours without medical attention.

Between this , the baby P case, the santiago case I am sickened beyond belief. I cannot understand how ANYONE can attack and be cruel to a defenseless baby or toddler. I just cannot get my head around it in any way shape or form. I could weep for what those babies went through. The idea of them lying injured, crying, alone just makes tear well up in my eyes. I am filled with a vicious longing to inflict serious and slow damage on the people who hurt them so.
My oldest friend- who just had a baby a few weeks ago- actually cried when she read what baby P went through, how he lay in a filthy cot sobbing with a broken back. She actually thought she was going to be sick. I completely understand.
How can these people do such things? How can a mother let her children be subjected to such horror? Why would she not fight tooth and nail to protect them? What can a man get from brutalising such a tiny and defenseless being?
I don't understand it. I can't understand it. Those people need to be put down, got rid of, shot, something. They have no value. They're not even scum. They're worse than that. I don't even have a word in my vocabulary to describe them.

It's heartbreaking it really is. It's like they enjoyed thinking up new ways to hurt her. Seriously, what wouldn't you give to have half an hour alone with them?

Something's very wrong. Any attempt to understand it - not exonerate it - has to look at the marginalised and dysfunctional lives of the people involved. It would also need to take account of the marginalised and dysfunctional lives of people who do not commit this sort of child-torture.

Some people in the otherwise 'developed world' are developing an 'off' switch that allows them commit terrible acts of cruelty without any compunction. We've got to know why this is happening.

We certainly do, if only to prevent some other baby dying after being used as a punch bag. There has to be some disconnection somewhere. It surely cannot be possible to be so inhumanely cruel to something so utterly defenseless unless you have completely abandoned whatever it is that make you human. I don't get it at all. I just don't. I mean fuck it, if you don't want the child give it up, give it to someone who does. There are options.

I am an utter coward and didn't buy papers this week-end to avoid reading anymore about it. My only excuse is that there is nothing I can do about it beyond thanking God that baby P is safe now.

I feel a terrible black cruelty enter into my heart when I think of the people responsible for such cruelty.
I can't help it.I know it's not in any way evolved but I want them dead.Plain and simple.
I'm frightened by how much I want to volunteer for the firing squad/garotte/guillotine crew/stone chucking mob.
Frightened and ashamed but still wanting to do it

I think it's normal Devin. I'm not normally so teary eyed about ANYTHING, but reading some of what these children went through- and pat I understand you wanting to avoid it- actually turned my stomach and I believe hand on my heart that I'd be more than happy to put a bullet in the head of everyone one of the fuckers who were involved.
You know what toddlers are like, you know that gappy teary half smile they give you when they see you come into the room if they've been upset. It breaks my fucking black heart to think of those little babies trying to do that with their teeth smashed, covered in bruises. It fucking does.

It leaves me speechless... In fact, I nearly have breathing difficulties reading these reports one after the other...

Also the blood boils when you consider - as previous post - comments from that priest about child abuse of another type - on top of recent pronouncements about children in 'normal' families vs other family setups - be they straight, gay or lesbian, married or not...

Simple fact - there are good parents who try to do their best for their kids and there are people who just should never have kids...

You can't just dictate & legislate for theoretical family setups - and then stick your head in the sand...

It's pretty horrific Beady, it's hard imagine how badly these children have been let down, by parents, families, the state. Terrible.

Has Twenty chimed in with a "kill them" yet?

If not, let me be the first.

Okay, you've got pole position on that one.

I don't think it's out of line to say that the folks involved should have their ability to have any more children taken swiftly away.

Like enforced sterilization? You know the moment you suggest that all hell would break loose.
But actually I can't find it in me to be against sterilizing people who beat their children to death. People who systematically torture babies don't deserve to be allowed keep producing.

FMC there is no excuse. I, like you, cannot wrap my head around that kind of behavior and while I encourage my son to be a kind and peaceful young man, there is no doubt that if someone ever laid a hand on my child, in the manner that we are talking about here, I would kill them. No questions asked. No second chances. The question how could a mother let someone do that to her child is one that I will never be able to answer.

That's the worst about it for me too. I just cannot understand how any woman could stand idly by and let anyone harm her child. Or worse, how she could participate in that harm. It just goes waaaay beyond my ken.

I'll never be able to get my head around needless and horrific violence against anyone, be them a baby or an adult, but in the case of a baby its way worse, because they have no chance of defending themselves like an adult would, not that either is a "better case". It brought tears to my eyes as well, lots of them. It makes me feel ill to think that there are people out there like this. How could anyone stand there and watch or participate in this, it's beyond me. Thinking of those poor kids makes me think of my neice, who is 22 mths old, who laughs so much every day and is so so happy, how unfair it is that these poor kids never knew a life like that, like they should have.
I agree with the sterilisation of them by the way. With no anasthetic for the fuckers.

I've been laying awake at night thinking about that poor child baby P, I can't fathom it. The other cases are now added to my lonely hours of the night thoughts. My youngest son is 15 months old, to imagine a grown man punching him or breaking his ribs makes me feel physically ill. It's hard to comment on this without coming across like a Sun reader but I don't think I could be held responsible for the harm I would like to inflict on the perpetrators of this kind of harm.

To be honest Babs and Boliath, I think that reaction of anger and absolute hatred is probably the norm. Most of us, despite our foibles and quirks, cannot genuinely conceive of harming another person I'm sure. But to harm a toddler or baby or say, an elderly person is repugnant. Because they're already vulnerable our instinct are to protect them, so it is VERY difficult not to fear fury when someone goes out of their way to hurt them.

It's truly horrific. I had written about the Nia Glassie case and Tinman wondered why you guys hadn't heard of it, yet.

As I said, don't even bother rehabilitating, yet a bullet to the brain would be too lenient.

I found myself yelling at National Radio when the murders' uncle came on and tried to say they were a good family. Nothing a long slow boil in hot oil wouldn't fix.

But also I can't believe that the neighbours HEARD REGULAR DISTRESSED SCREAMING and did nothing about it.

Sickening.

That's one of the many things that bugged the fuck out of me too LK, neighbours and lodgers who KNEW something was seriously wrong and did nothing. Didn't want to get involved, the fuckers. I don't know how they can live with that.

I'm like PI, I try not to read about these things, not because I don't care, but because I just find them too upsetting.

I am a peaceful, quiet man. I have lived my life protecting and defending innocents to the very best of my ability. Sadly, very early in life I learned that there are people in the world who have no regard for any life but their own. As time passed, I realized that there are an awful lot of those people. I carry a handgun almost everywhere I go.

As peaceful as I am, please give me those demons who torture babies and let me take them into the deep, dark woods about 20 miles. They will receive a sharp rap on each kneecap with a 4 pound hammer and then be left there to work out their own destiny. Of course, 20 miles is a long way to drag useless legs and predators are drawn to blood.

That's the thing Max, isn't it? The older you get the more you realise monsters exist. From the banal everyday bastards to the likes of Josef Fritzl. If I could carry a hand gun I would too.

I read these stories and can't help but think of my own two children. What kind of world are they growing up in? How can a person look into such a trusting face, so full of love and admiration, only to smash it with a fist? What the hell is the opposition to forced sterylization? If there is anything to support it, then it is stories like these. If anyone laid a hand on either of my children there is not a force on earth that would prevent me doing severe violence to them. It's maternal instinct. How can a woman not have this? It truly boggles the mind.

fatmammycat, talk to your kickboxing instructor about the many uses of a good cane or walking stick. That's what I carry where the handgun cannot go. It has the advantage of increasing your reach so the unpleasant individuals can't get close without damage. Hehehe...
