You have to wonder what chance a kid has of making anything of their life if her own parents can't even be bothered their holes to turn up to a police station upon learning of the child's arrest.
Imagine being 14 and in trouble and knowing that there is no one who cares enough about you to come to your aid. Poor kid. I don't like thieves, but fuck, kids make mistakes and if they're lucky they learn from them. Maybe this child is a little brat, maybe she's a handful, it doesn't really matter. Whatever the circumstances, parental care should not be conditional.
That's very sad, but neglect of kids is all too common I'm afraid.You see it everywhere, children gone feral, because their parents are junkies, alco's layabouts or just arseholes.

I just felt bad for the kid, 14, in a police station and then court and no show from the parents. Even if they're really mad at her, you'd imagine they turn up.

This case does sound like pure neglect. There can be more complicated circumstances, though.
ReplyDeleteI do some occasional sessions at a Free Legal Advice Clinic. I had a lady in once who wanted to avoid having to go to her son's court case. He was about 17 IIRC and had terrorised and assualted her and a younger child in the past. She didn't want him to know where she was living in case he would come around again. She had spent years trying to get him under control and eventually had to give up.
As if that wasn't enough, she also suffered from Crohn's disease.
It is not a big deal forget about it.Because it is normal due to the kids.Although is a painful but may be forgettable.
