Input ple-ase.

Yawn, and good late morning fellow Friday lovers. I'm only on coffee numbero uno so bear with me.
Next Wednesday is the birthday of a VELLY good friend of mine and I have booked up in for a most excellent seafood lunch in a fine restaurant. However, I must buy a gift of some kind tomorrow. Now ordinarily this would be easy peasy, most of my chumlywarners are easy to buy for, but this lady is the exception.
She will be 44, she is wealthy, does not like sport, nor doing stuff, 'cept eating and going to the cinema and drinking, she likes fur, gold and quirky items. Now since I won't be venturing anywhere into furland and gold is also out that leaves the quirky.
So, so far I've come up with,
1) Large ornate jewellery box.
2) leopard print gloves and matching handbag-more for winter really, but they are a bit fab.
3) and that is it.

Any advice/ideas would be most appreciated.

Too fleeting. Plus we'd be a danger to ourselves if we had that at our disposal on Wednesday. Nah, needs to be something lasting, but quirky. But thankee nonetheless.

I'd nix the jewelry box because if she's rich she already has one which may be gigantic. I also wouldn't give a winter gift now because she'l have to wait too long to use it.
A nice coffee table book on art maybe? A dvd boxed set if she's a film fan? A nice straw tote is always a great thing for the summer as well. Or you could even spend 100 Euro or more on a great pair of sunglasses. Everyone could use an extra pair of those great big ones like you see in Hollwood. So chic.

What about a short wine course or cooking class? There's a few around Dublin that you go in drink a few glasses of wine while you watch someone prepare a wonderful meal, even help, then eat it with some more wine. YUM! ;-)

I wouldn't buy her anything that lasts - as that has a sort of ageist feel. I suggest you get her something sexy, young and ephemeral like Stella McCartney In Two body lotion - the message she will get is that you think of her as a youthful, edgy, funky woman. (I always analyse what people think of me by the pressie they give me! sad, or what? One friend gave me Woods of Windsor soap - Jeez - I pushed her right down to the bottom of my friend list!)

And FMC - I don't know the thinking in Ireland on leopardskin print - but here nobody over 25 can wear leopardskin and be considered funky, in the UK it's considered too too Beth Lynch of Ex Coronation Street.

They were in a rather unique boutique Shebah and I was charmed by them, and she'd like them a whole lot-and get away with it, she has a whiff of 'Heart' the band about her style wise.
Lot's of good suggestions there, I'll think on them as tomorrow is shopping for the gift day.

There's a gorgeous and unusual antique jewellery shop on Wicklow St called Past Times, a bought a similar sounding person a lovely antique jewellery box in there at Christmas.

THAT'S THE ONE I WAS THINKING OF! Dang. I rather like it a lot. It large, wooden, carved and square with five shelves and ornate and ...well, you've seen it.

Happy Shopping!

I like finn's story idea. Very personal. Or you could put together a wee goody-basket with cinema tickets, classic DVDs, popcorn, a massage voucher, a bottle of bubbly - that sort of thing. But I guess that might not be very long-lasting. If you can find an antique jewellery box, go for it! Jewellery boxes aren't things people usually buy for themselves and an antique one is bound to feel like a real treat to her.

Hmm. Wasn't much help, was I? Many sorries - only half a coffee into the day so far and did something wierd to my toe on a walk this morning.
