Thank Freddie it's Friday.

You have to wonder why people do the things they do. What goes through their minds? What went throught their minds when they got up that morning? Did they brush their teeth, have a shower check for blackheads, and then think, 'Bugger it, I'll call in sick and go get some horns put in instead.'?
It's a wild wild world out there, thank marmalade.

Thank god for the not normal people for they make life interesting. Remember the movie being John Malkovich. When John became John and every one looked the same. That is really a scary concept.

Coming form a rural village, I thought I knew what nutty folk were, but them I moved to Dublin. Saturday afternoon in Dublin is like sitting front row at a nuttierthanthou show. I love it. If you have beer in front of you at the time it's even better.
By the way, that was a hell of a cute dog. Mac hawt.

I love it. If I bumped into them in a dark alley though I would assume the worst and hit them with whatever was to hand!

Horns? Really? I bet that hurt.

I love these photos - and love the idea of the person being the art - using their own body as canvas. There were a lot of students at art school who did this to some degree, but it was mostly reversible piercing stuff and very colourful hair and clothes. Only the really brave had facial tatoos. It's fascinating stuff, and great fun. Tracey Emin used her own life as her canvas to very great effect.

You know I"m not a big fan of tattoos, but I've got a picture here of the most stunning piece of body art ever. I'll see if I can find it.

I think the split devil tongue thing bothers me more than the horns.

How do facial-implant/massive piercings people sleep at night? Seriously, do they have specially-formed pillows to take account of all the strange contours? I had a teensy little nose ring once and found it difficult to sleep with.

I saw a pierced woman that looked just like your pierced woman in Edinburgh during the festival. I wonder if it was her... or maybe there's a country somewhere where all the people look like these? "See, little Johnny has got daddy's horns".

Jesus, even just sleeping on my shoulder some night is painful, your right grimsy, it must be painful. Or what if your hair gets tangled in a piercing? Ow I should say.
Eva, snarf.
Medbh, that is gross. I think I have a photo of THAT somewhere too.

Eva - wasn't Edinburgh awesome. Best one ever. It's worth going just to people watch all the weird and wonderful characters. My liver is still recovering and the brain not back to normal yet. Did the sleepless nights on sheer adrenaline but am now fucked. FMC, you should try to get there next year.

Shebah - yeah it was fab. I am in recovery too... physically, mentally and economically. But what the hell, it's on only once a year, and for me it was the first time in years that I was able to to go to a lot of stuff... so I did.
Winter is for rest.

Ew, as a girl who has some (5) tattoos all of which were drawn specially for me!! And some piercings , I realy don't know how these people sleep at night, the top of the ear and any where near bones / teeth are the worst, one time I had my lip done three times at the same time, it was actually dead cute (apparently) but I had to take two of them out cause I couldn't sleep on my belly without serious facial discomfort, maybe they just don't sleep, I know I couldn't!

A very different perspective on fitting in, identifying with, and in a lot of ways, I wonder what expectations they have to be able to sustain themselves.

It's interesting. The more they do to themselves, the more people notice them (which they want) though conversely, the smaller their world becomes because there are very few people who will go to that extreme to look like that.

And in a way, they expect and get a thrill out of being both alienated and alienating. So it's really up to everyone else to reach out to them, have faith that within them they'll find something that's more than the shock value of what's only skin deep.

I wonder do they ever get fed up of it all. Like when they get asked to a wedding or a friend's party. I mean, I get fed up of hair colour after a few months, can you imagine being stuck with a skull face, or a set of horns? In your fifties? Sixties?
