Valentine's Day, Ground Hog Day.
Meh, it's hard to feel romantic when faced with a mountain of work and no slaves or worker monkeys to do it. I even have a meeting today, and you know how I feel about them. The current project I am working on requires meetings. With people. How annoying.
But for other souls more joyous and romantic and not forced to dress and go to meetings, today is a day of hope and heart and commercial bollocks. Cards will be bought, received and delivered, flowers with notes will wizz thither and yon, texts will buzz non stop, dinners will be booked, hands will be held. Some people might get laid. Some people will feel unloved and dejected because they don't fit in to the kodiak moment of scripted love (not Tilda Swinton it has to be said, forges her own path with romance that woman, she was excellent in Constantine too)
Whatever, I didn't get to sleep until after 4 in the AM so I"m feeling particularly fragile and as romantic as a three day old piece of poo.
However. At some point today I'm sure nineteen cups of coffee will kick in and I will open my other eye, so keeping that in mind, romance.
What is your most romantic/and here's mine...
Film- Moonstruck, I love it. I love it to pieces.
Song- Isha D, Stay. Means a lot to me that song, it can make my black heart melt slightly.
Book- The End of the Affair -Graham Green. Actually, this is probably not the most romantic of books, but I can almost feel every single tremor of hurt and anger in the lines and it had a hell of an effect on me when I read it, so it's in there. I remember reading the Thornbirds as a youth and being beguiled by it too- although I can only imagine what I'd think if I read it now.

I do not have a romantic bone in my body, but the film has to be The Way We Were, Oh the tears I did shed, I’ll be singing the theme all day now. Hi, although it mightn't be exactly the romance you had in mind I would have to say The Count of Monte Cristo; really quite a powerful book.
Film, I would have to say What dreams may come or, Imagining Argentina...although again, maybe not romantic at first glance I don't know.
As for music...I'm going with Hayley Westenra's cover of Both Sides Now.

No such thing as "most romantic" - but these are what spring to mind:
Film - The Remains of the Day. All that suppressed emotion, and the scene where she prises the book out of his hand kills me. Or The Princess Bride. I don't care if its for kids, and it plays to all the stereotypes of the princess being rescued by the knight in shining armour, I bloody love it.
Song - Maybe "A Case Of You" by Joni Mitchell - "I remember that time you told me/You said, love is touching souls/Surely you touched mine cos/Part of you pours out of me/In these lines from time to time." Makes me bawl. Or Tom Waits' "Martha".
Book - Vikram Seth's An Equal Music. The story of an affair resumed after years, all set to classical music. The End of the Affair is one of my all-time favourites too. I read it when I was about 17 and re-reading it 10 years later experienced the exact same emotions as first time around, which is a rare thing indeed. Also maybe Love in the Time of Cholera.
That's a lot of long-drawn-out obsession/unrequited love/doomed affairs.

Film - The Painted Veil. Of it is misery at the end but it is a story of love that you can believe.

As you can see, I don't much DO Romance. I do like a love story but I can't hack it if it is soppy.

It is EXTREMELY difficult to write a happy love song without coming off as silly and twee. Therefore, all the best love songs are tragic, sad ones. It was really tough for SPOUSE and me to think of a song for our first dance at the wedding. Every single song we thought of had a tragic element, or was about losing the love of one's life, not finding it.
I'm not much of a romantic, so today can come and go without a card, candy or flowers and I'll be perfectly at ease. I KNOW he's going to go out and get something so I will find myself in a card shop on my lunch break, standing next to all the guys who are panicking because they completely forgot what day it is and their SO's laid down some pretty big hints, trying to find a card that doesn't make me want to puke.
But as far as films, books, songs go...
Song: There are some beautiful tragic, sad love songs on Dire Straits' "Making Movies" album. "Romeo and Juliet," "Hand in Hand," to name two.
Film: Truly, Madly, Deeply. When Alan Rickman is watching her through the window as she goes on that date - booooo hooooo hooooo.
Book: ...ummm...Wuthering Heights? I take Heathcliff's side. Fuck 'em all, Cliffy baby, they done you wrong!
Oooohhhh...Docky2 - Nick Cave has done some amazing love songs. "Into My Arms" is gorgeous, thanks for reminding me!

You know people always talk about Dylan's protest songs but when you think about it, he has some incredibly poignant and touching love songs. 'If Not For You', 'If You See Her. Say Hello', 'Don't Think Twice, It's Alright', 'Tangled Up In Blue', 'You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go' and 'Simple Twist Of Fate' to name the most well known ones..

Since Spouse always has to work late Thursdays, we did our usual "love day" celebration last night. Flowers, check. Wine, check. Steak and potatoes, check. Chocolate, check. A DVD and snuggling on the couch, check. It's a regular weeknight, but with more expensive food and drink.
Romantic book? Gilead, by Marilynne Robinson. It's not about romance in the conventional sense of the word; it's a long love letter from an elderly father to his young wife and very young son. Lots of longing and reflection.
Romantic movie? Speaking of Groundhog Day, I think that may be one of the more romantic movies I've seen.
Romantic song? "Dressy" by Reigning Sound. I have a soft spot for straight-up rock, and an even softer spot for bands who can do a couple unbelievable ballads in the midst of a straight-up rock album.
Sheepie - in the end we just gave up and at the last minute threw up our hands and picked some moldy old Frank Sinatra song or other. I think it was 'Young at Heart,' because we were both approaching 40.
Meh.
I wanted something funnier, but SPOUSE wouldn't dance to anything faster than that. Now that I think about it, we should have picked Elvis Costello's version of "My Funny Valentine" - it's only like a minute and a half long, which would have shortened the embarrassment of slow dancing while 100 people looked on. I've NEVER felt so self-conscious and stupid in my life.
Andreste, I thought I was the most unromantic person ever to plague the earth but, you win with not being able to remember you wedding song, you are my new hero!
Bad Ambassador, Mr. Dylan is the man, I wonder if he’ll play here this year. My favourite is Lay Lady Lay, absolutely gorgeous.

I could be here all day banging on about other songs, scenes from movies and books but I have to go to work. But here's a story which didn't occur on Valentine's Day but almost could have - I once arrived at my boyfriend's (at the time)house. He told me to close my eyes and stretch out my arms. He put TEN DOZEN red rose into my arms.
I just looked at him, gobbsmacked -until he told me that he had arrived at the dump the same time as the florist! Then made me promise that I wasn't allowed to tell anyone he'd given me ten dozen roses unless I told them where he had got them from.
Film - Moonstruck. The only romantic type film that I like - and I adore it lots. Everything about it is perfect. No schmaltz, the Italian theme, the mother, the grandad with the dogs, the "you've ruined my life" bit - and the "snap out of it" bit. Can't begin to explain how good it is.
Song - Into my Arms. How perfect is that - he accepts (and loves) her exactly as she is; the only thing he would change is to have a deity that he doesn't believe in make it happen. Perfectly black heart meltingly perfect. (And I'd seen that youtube version before - one of the best, can't recall you suggested it - but absolutely bang on)
Book - I can't think of one. How odd.
TV moment - not really a fan of The Office (always felt way too horrifyingly close to the bone) - but the moment where Tim and Dawn kiss - just perfect. I loved it.
