Baby Whisperer Derek Ogilvie= epic fail

I'd like to say I was stunned to read that baby mind reader Derek Ogilvie failed miserably in the James Randi test, but of course I am not. The man is a deluded fraud and when unable to cold read parents he had no recourse left to him but to fail.
This is routinely what happens to 'psychics' and other hucksters are called upon to provide evidence that their 'gifts' are real.
But what truly pisses me off is the lack of media interest when one or other of these charlatans is exposed. Where are the articles about their exposure? Where are the articles commenting on his evident inability to read the minds of small babies?
It does seem the media are content to let these snake oil peddlers diddle the public quite mercilessly. They're allowed to carry on dribbling their lies and accepting money from the gullible as though nothing untoward has happened.
Like all fraudsters Ogilvie is now trying to move the goal posts, he failed the tests, even though he initially said he was happy with how they were conducted, he signed a contract and was filmed throughout, but so what? he's not happy. This is the woo woo way. When you're embedded so deep in a plethora of lies you have no option but to make excuse after excuse in an attempt to deflect from your short comings.
Derek Ogilvie is a fraud. He cannot do what he claims he can do. There is no other way to say it and no way for him to disguise it.
Baby Whisperers, I am against them.

Baby Whisperer?!
I would have thought that there was an invisible bond between Mother and baby anyway?
A sort of mysterious tie that is not easily explained.
But aprt from that, what could he possible learn from "whispering" with a "babby"...my nappy needs changing? Feed me now?

Any Mother worth her salt will observe this signs and they are not called baby "whisperers"...just Mothers.

Watch it John, especially watch Ogilvie's body language during the test itself.

Annette- exactly, and it's curious that the babies never have anything of real interest to day. Just more cold reading balls.
Sheepie- right.

I dunno. I was keeping an eye on two six-month-olds a while back and the psychic one told the other one she was going to be a reiki healer when she grew up.

I was amazed, and asked how he knew that. He told me they had discussed me the previous day and that she had said that I have an aura fissure. Then he said that she was right, I do have an aura fissure. Well whaddya know? It's like that line (from Hamlet?) 'More to Heaven and Earth than etc etc, Horatio.'

The local rags are full of ads for astral this, reiki that, spiritual the other, and psychic what-ever-you're-havin'-yourself. It's all part of the great 'woo-transition' from being priest-ridden to being quack-ridden.

Yeah, it's amazing how many people have recently discovered their 'gifts' and are willing to share them with Joe Public for a minor fee. Amazing.

Very true Conan - never actually thought about it like that. I just assumed that the waning influence of the church was being replaced with relative reason, rather than the 'quack-ridden' woo. I suppose alot of people still need a fix.

What a fucking wee snivelling arse! In there rolling his neck like he was actually going to exert himself or something.

Viva James Randi!

I particularly liked the part where Randi rather mildly says 'well you can either do it or you can't.' Yep.

He's looking at too much "Family Guy"...in particular "Steiw" the baby...who is actually a diabolical, machevellian mastermind!!

Speaking of Reikki. Yesterday I seen an extremely small car with Adverts for REKKI plastered all over the doors...I kid you not.
The driver was a very thin, middle aged man, I do not know if he was wearing cros and listening to Lyric FM.

Vile hucksters.

For some reason I've got it in my head that it would be a good idea to find these people and hit them on the head with a hammer and then try to fix them with their own machines.

I'm not being funny about this, but this morning at about 7:45, I was thinking of a test to prove fortune tellers wrong and what the likelihood of randomly getting predictions correct would be.

Randi was also being really generous in the challenge by saying that he only had to be correct 60% of the time.
So many of the woo practitioners have an inflated sense of worth in the supposed "gift" they have.

Isn't because the media also show a distinct lack of interest when their own made up stories are also exposed?

HEALDLINE: "So and so did such and such!!!"

2 weeks later, tiny paragraph hidden away somewhere, "so and so did not do such and such and we apologise if we gave any sort of impression s/he did..."

And even then i still think he has an ability to be a mediator between both worlds.Who are we to judge when the normal vision people have is rather narrow. There is more in this world then we can observe only a few can.And it's a blessing aswell as a curse.

@john braine...lol
But seriously in order to do a reading and all the energy of the person you are giving the reading to must be felt. How can anyone do this with closed doors and all??
And i find it very frustrating that derek has to prove himself time and time again.
I witnessed him giving readings to people and was very detailed with the information giving to them.

Anyway, everyone can have his own opinion in this. But i'm convinced he has the capicity of receiving information through energy. And as a psychiatric nurse being i can tell when it's a delusion or disorder.

@Diana. That's the

>How can anyone do this with closed doors and all??

Why would closed doors make any difference. Surely the point of his claims is that he can transcend physicality?

It's just as bad as the faith argument for religion.

"I witnessed him giving readings to people and was very detailed with the information giving to them."

Sorry but - Yawn. There are several books on how easy some people can do this. He's a con man. He can con some people but when it coems to the crunch - EPIC FAIL. "He can either do it or he can't"

"But i'm convinced he has the capicity of receiving information through energy."

But not through walls.

"And as a psychiatric nurse being i can tell when it's a delusion or disorder."

That's so deluded it's almost funny.

11:49 a.m.
Blogger diaan said...

ok john..how come it's deluded??
But why is he a con??Don't you think there is more in this world then what we can observe?
Anyway don't matter...I didn't get a reading as yet..so when i will,i'll let you know what's been said correctly without me saying a sigle word.

1:37 p.m.
Blogger John Braine said...

>ok john..how come it's deluded??

Well being a psychiatric nurse gives you no better judgement on wheter a person's experience is real or delusional. Especially given that you believe in this stuff.

>But why is he a con??

Because he can't do what he claims to do. Simple as that... apart from cold-reading susceptable and naive people etc etc

>Don't you think there is more in >this world then what we can >observe?

No. You can either observe something or you can't. If you can't observe something in a reasonable manner, removing any hokery pokery, than there is absolutely no reason to believe it exists. Other than faith / superspicion.

1:52 p.m.
Blogger diaan said...

Well john observing you can do in many ways.
When a person says he or she is capable of seeing spirits who are we to say that it's not true.
Because it doesn't fit in the picture perfect??
And it's not believing, believe is only to god.More like convinced that he has this capacity to do so.
Anyway i stand with my point of view...right or wrong this is how i see it.

Derek has no more skill than the average card sharp, non of these hucksters has. that's why they cannot prove their 'power' when faced with a double blind test. If Ogivie could do as he claimed he'd be one million richer right now, but he cannot, and no amount of hodge podge wishful thinking is going to chance that.
By the way, he didn't 'have to' prove himself, delusion, ego, and a thirst for money drove him to the show.
